Rinpoche Gurus
Drukpa Choegon Rinpoche's Gurus

My Gurus - compiled  from various random interviews with Rinpoche.

Guru is the source of blessings, the root of grace. From the Vajrayana perspective, nothing is more important than meeting the right guru! The lama is taken as the very root of spiritual realization and the basis of the entire path to enlightenment.

I have been very fortunate to have met some of the greatest masters of the twentieth century. And I am so blessed to have had these three great masters as my root gurus - the 8th Kyabgon Khamtrul Rinpoche, H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and the 8th Kyabgon Adeu Rinpoche. They have left a lasting impression on me, and made me the person that I am today, for which I am greatly indebted.

Of the root gurus, Khamtrul Rinpoche and Adeu Rinpoche were pivotal in the transmission of the Dechen Choekhor Lineage of Drukpa Kargyu teachings in my life. They had in turn received  the complete lineage teachings from their root guru, the 8th Kyabgon Drukpa Choegon Rinpoche, Choekyi Gyamtso in Nangchen Garh upon invitation and request by the King of Nangchen in the 1940s.

I was four years of age when Khamtrul Rinpoche recognized me as the reincarnation of the previous Choegon Rinpoche. At the age of six, I was then invited to Tashi Jong and formally enthroned by Khamtrul Rinpoche. At the age of fourteen, I received an urgent message from Khamtrul Rinpoche in Bhutan, who requested me to go to Bhutan immediately to receive the complete lineage transmissions and teachings of Drukpa Kargyu. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter he entered into parinirvana in Tongsa Monastery Bhutan after completed some of the most important transmission.

H.H. Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche was still in Bhutan at that time, took on the mantle of teacher until he passed on in 1991. Khyentse Rinpoche imparted to me the teachings of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism, and guided me to complete many practices in retreat, including Vajrakilaya, Green Tara, Buddha Amitayus, Vajrapani, Kurukulle, Padmasambhava, etc.

My most important and instrumental root guru of this life time was the 8th Kyabgon Adeu Rinpoche, where he transmitted the complete Drukpa Choegon Lineage's practices and transmission, and guided me to accomplish all the important practices and retreats of the Drukpa Kargyu, particularly the characteristic practices of the Drukpa Choegon Lineage.
